When considered taboo, dating apps are becoming the travel that is ultimate, particularly if you’re hitting the trail solamente. Let’s be genuine, dating is hard for queer individuals. Physically, being a queer, agender, polyamorous individual of color, we battle to find like-minded individuals to form genuine intimate connections with. We would all love for connections to take place naturally; I for one sooo want to fulfill a cutie that is queer strawberries during the farmer’s market, but unfortunately, it is not likely. Additionally, considering our minuscule dating pool, you’ll likely wind up pursuing your ex’s girlfriend’s brother’s partner’s ex. Cisgender, heterosexual individuals could have more choices, but queer individuals would you like to find love (or other things) too!

We wondered: why don’t you try dating apps? They’re easy, available, have options to filter individuals to stay glued to certain preferences, and a lot of notably, offer a method to satisfy queer individuals beyond one’s connections that are immediate. Perfect, right?

Ends up, there are many reasoned explanations why maybe not, rather than all dating apps are developed equal. You, dear queer (or perhaps identified) reader, will ideally study on my queer experiences of using seven dating apps.

I’ll be evaluating four apps marketed to supposedly everyone (Happn, Bumble, OkCupid, and Tinder), and three apps marketed specifically to queer people (LGBTQutie, Grindr, along with Her), and assessing them based primarily on queer friendliness, with a conversation of functionality also. In the interests of persistence, for every single software, we selected an age array of 18 to 28, used an equivalent profile, and find the binary sex of feminine whenever I needed to, making clear that we am actually nonbinary and employ they/them pronouns. We ranked each application on a scale from 1 to 5 rainbows.
